The Bergepanzer 3 (BPZ 3) Buffel (Buffalo) is an armored recovery vehicle based on the Leopard 2 main battle tank. It was designed to provide recovery capability for Leopard 2 units. The BPZ 2 , which is based on the Leopard 1, was not powerful enough for the heavier tank. Development of the BPZ 3 was jointly funded by Germany and the Netherlands.
