The BMPT (boevaya mashina podderzhki tankov or tank support combat vehicle), is an anti-infantry fire support vehicle consisting of a low-profile turret mounted on a T-72 or T-90 tank chassis. It is intended to provide fire support for main battle tanks, neutralizing enemy infantry equipped with anti-armor weapons (see "Issues" for more information). It was also designed to suppress artillery positions and light armored vehicles.
