The 4 x 4 wheeled Fox was designed in the 1960s to replace the older FV701 Ferret series of armored cars in British service. It was designated the combat vehicle reconnaissance (wheeled), or CVR(W), during its development.
Essentially an enlarged Ferret in appearance, the Fox benefits from increases in engine power and armament. The result is a heavier yet still mobile and well-armed light armored reconnaissance vehicle. The 30-mm Rarden gun and turret are also used in the FV107...
