The Eitan is an 8 x 8 wheeled armored personnel carrier (APC) developed by Merkava and Israel's Armored Vehicles Directorate. It will be the first wheeled APC to enter service with Israel. The requirement was borne out of the 2014 Gaza conflict, when the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) found it needed an APC that was lighter and had greater strategic and tactical mobility than the Namer.
