The BTR-60 was developed as a replacement for the BTR-152 armored personnel carrier (APC). The BTR-60 8 x 8 wheeled APC is still in widespread use throughout Russia and other former Soviet nations, as well as in many other countries.
The vehicle has a short bow that tapers outward to full hull width ahead of the first axle. The commander and driver sit behind the stepped front and have large armored visors to protect the windshields and overhead hatches.
