The tracked AMX-10P armored personnel carrier (APC) was designed to a 1965 French operational requirement for a tracked amphibious infantry fighting vehicle (VCAI). The requirement called for the APC to have the following: a 20-mm gun; amphibious capability; protection against nuclear, biological a nd chemical (NBC) attack; and a weight of about 14 metric tons (30,900 lb).
