The LVTP-5 was the first standard post-World War II amphibious assault vehicle to enter service in the U.S. Marine Corps.

The bulky, slab-sided hull is driven through the water by its tracks and has a bow ramp that opens into a large troop compartment. The ramp and hull bottom have inverted-V panels to improve amphibian efficiency.
