The Sinai 23 was the winner of an Egyptian government competition for an air defense vehicle (the losing entry was the Thomson-CSF Nile 23).
The system consists of a U.S. M113A2 armored personnel carrier fitted with a Hispano-Suiza one-person TA-23E turret armed with twin 23-mm ZU-23 anti-aircraft guns and six Egyptian Sakr-Eye (a local variant of the Russian SA-7 Grail) surface-to-air missiles (SAMs), three on each side.
