Considered a greatly improved successor to the S-75/V-75 (NATO: SA-2 Guideline), the S-300 (NATO: SA-10 Grumble) surface-to-air missile (SAM) was developed to counter low-altitude, high-velocity threats such as low-level bombers, fighters and cruise missiles. Known as the S-300P family, these missiles began with the S-300PT and ended with the S-300PMU2 Favorit.
