The 85-mm D-48 anti-tank gun is distinguished by its very long, 74-caliber barrel and recoil system located over the breech area.
The D-48 has a two-wheel carriage and a single castor wheel to aid in bringing the weapon into firing position.
The D-48 fires armor-piercing (AP) and high-explosive (HE) ammunition.
Initial operational capability (IOC) was attained in the early 1950s. The gun was replaced in mid-1960s by 100-mm T-12 anti-tank gun.
It is in service in declining numbers....
