The M18 57-mm recoilless rifle is a ground-mounted or shoulder-fired weapon.
The rifle consists of six components: barrel, breech mechanism, firing cable, trigger mechanism, bipod and extendable handle assembly.
An improved version of the M18, the M18A1 has a more complicated breech mechanism.
The M18 fires high-explosive (HE), high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) and white phosphorous (WP HEAT) ammunition.
