The British 6-pounder (57-mm) anti-tank gun was developed just before World War II, and entered production in 1941. Plans were supplied to the United States where it was produced as the 57-mm Gun M1 beginning in late 1941.
The 6-pounder was also adopted as the main armament on the British Crusader and Cromwell cruiser tanks.
The British and U.S. guns were very similar. A longer barrel developed for the U.S. M1 was incorporated into the British Mk 4. Both British and U.S. guns later...
