The L4 Mobat was an intermediate step in the British effort to produce a lightweight battalion anti-tank (BAT) recoilless rifle that culminated in the L6 Wombat (see separate database entry).
Compared to the earlier L2, the Mobat is more than 500 lb (2 kg) lighter, with much of the weight reduction being accomplished by replacing the full shield of the L2 with a small shield on the right side of the L4's barrel. The L4 is a towed weapon and has not been adapted to vehicle mounts....
