The Dragon Fire mortar system was an experimental program designed to evaluate the addition of automation to artillery systems.
The initial Dragon Fire I demonstrator featured a 120-mm rifled, recoiling, self-loading system that could fire both rifled and smoothbore ammunition. The project was designed for the Expeditionary Fire Support System (EFSS) program and later redesignated the XM326. The EFSS requirement was ultimately filled by a towed, manually operated mortar system....
