The HY-12D1 is an unusual muzzle-loading rifled mortar. It is a copy of the French 120-mm RT F1 mortar.
The mortar is towed on a two-wheel carriage and can be single fired or operated automatically on its wheels. In Turkish service, the mortar is generally towed by a UNIMOG light truck that also carries the crew of six as well as 60 mortar bombs.
