The Bighorn was a 120-mm mortar system that used an autonomous recoiled smoothbore mortar and a semi-automatic muzzle loader. It could fire a variety of 120-mm ammunition, including STRIX and cargo rounds.
The loading system for shells was automatic and used "pushing" technology, rather than a "grabber" technique. This prevented damage to thin-walled rounds.
