The AM 50 120-mm mortar is towed on a two-wheel carriage. It is fired with or without the carriage and towed by its muzzle.
In the traveling position the base plate is folded up, behind the wheels, and the barrel is in a horizontal position, held in place by a crutch fitted in front of the carriage.
The AM 50 fires the M44 high-explosive (HE), Mk 62 illuminating (ILLUM), Mk 62 smoke and projectile explosif a propulsion additionelle (PEPA) ammunition.
