The D-56 is the main armament for the PT-76 amphibious light tank. It was derived from the ZIS-2 towed anti-tank gun and the later T-34 tank guns.
Two versions are still in use, the D-56T and the D-56TM. The D-56T is installed on the PT-76A and the D-56TM on the PT-76B.
The gun fires the following projectiles: OF-350 high-explosive fragmentation (HE-FRAG), BK-350M HE anti-tank (HEAT), BZR-350B armor-piercing with tracer (AP-T), BR-350 AP incendiary with tracer (API-T) and BM-354P...
