The 30-mm Aden aircraft cannon has been the principal gun armament on most British-built aircraft for decades (U.S. Marine Corps AV-8A Harriers also carried the 30-mm Aden). The gun was developed at the same time as the French DEFA 550 series (see separate database entry) and can fire the same ammunition. Both guns were based on the German MG213C cannon of World War II.
