In addition to Russia, many other former Warsaw Pact members and several additional nations use 12.7-mm aircraft guns mounted on aircraft and helicopters.
Three variants of these systems exist, based on where the gun is mounted: turret (UB-12.7); wing (UBK-12.7); and synchronous (UBS-12.7).
Most 12.7-mm guns are single-barreled and unsynchronized. Two fixed cannon (UBK-12.7) were fitted to the MiG-15. Pivoting cannon (UBT-12.7) are commonly mounted on helicopters.
