The NS-23 and NR-23 are early 23-mm cannons that have been fitted to Russian aircraft. They are believed to fire 7-oz (200-g) projectiles with a muzzle velocity of 2,263 fps (690 m/sec). The NS-23 single-barrel, belt-fed cannon is basically an NS-37 reduced in size and adapted for standard 23-mm ammunition.
