The Russian Utka, or Lun, was a coastal defense wing-in-ground (WIG) vehicle armed with six SS-N-22 Sunburn anti-ship missiles. (Another WIG, the Orlan, was an amphibious warfare craft with a swing-up nose and capacity for 100 troops.)

The Utka resembled a flying boat in configuration and flew in "ground effect" over land or water achieving considerable increases in load-carrying capability over that of conventional cargo aircraft. WIGs normally come down on water or ice. The...
