The JL-9 Shanying (Mountain Eagle) is a trainer aircraft based on the J-7 fighter. The aircraft has been competing against the JL-15 for China's next-generation trainer program.

The JL-9 fuselage resembles that of the J-7 , but has a redesigned solid nose and lateral air inlets.
