Several U.S.-built Lockheed L-1011 Tristar three-engine, wide-body airliners have completed military service. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) operated nine second-hand aircraft in a tanker/transport role. All military Tristars were the L-1011-500 short-fuselage variant. The RAF purchased six ex-British Airways L-1011-500s in 1982 and three from Pan Am in 1984. The Jordanian and Saudi Arabian governments each operated Tristars in a royal transport/VIP role.
