The P-1 is Japan's program to develop an indigenous replacement for its P-3C Orion aircraft. The project was begin in concert with the C-2 program (see separate record) in an effort to ensure commonality and lower costs. The P-1 shares 25 percent commonality with the C-2 airframe and 75 percent with the C-2 onboard systems.
