The KJ-500 is an airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft in service with the Chinese air force and navy. The design is based on the Y-9 cargo aircraft. The KJ-500 features a fixed saucer-shaped dorsal rotodome with three radar arrays. The active electronically scanned arrays (AESA) are arranged with each covering a 120-degree sector for full 360-degree coverage. The KJ-500 is expected to replace the KJ-200 early warning aircraft.
