A French-built multi-role helicopter, the Super Frelon ("Super Hornet") is one of the largest helicopters in military service. It is used primarily in the troop transport, anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and search-and-rescue (SAR) roles.
The Super Frelon resembles the Sikorsky H-3 Sea King series (and benefited from Sikorsky assistance in its rotor design), but the Super Frelon is bigger and is powered by three turboshaft engines rather than the two in the Sea King.
