The Y-8 is a Chinese adaptation of the Soviet An-12 Cub. It is somewhat larger and heavier than the Soviet design. It is used by all three Chinese military services and has been adapted for a variety of roles, including transport, helicopter carrier, maritime patrol, surveillance, airborne early warning, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) carrier, communications relay, electronic intelligence and electronic warfare.
