The Blinder was the first supersonic bomber from the former Soviet Union to enter service. It was built in smaller than expected numbers (apparently because its range fell short of requirements), so it did not replace the Tu-16 Badger as originally planned. It was the only bomber with external, rear-mounted engines to serve with any air force.
