The A-1 Skyraider was the last piston-engine, fighter/attack-type aircraft produced for the U.S. Navy.
The Skyraider had a conventional, World War II-era fighter configuration, with a large, piston engine, low-mounted straight wing, a conventional tail and bubble cockpit. The tail-sitting aircraft had a large, 13.5-ft (4.1-m) propeller.
The A-1D had an extremely large payload -- up to 9,900 lb. (4,500 kg) -- of bombs, rockets, torpedoes, mines, fuel tanks and in-flight refueling...
