The Persistent Ground Surveillance System (PGSS) was developed for U.S. military forces in Afghanistan. The Army sought to develop it as a smaller, less expensive system for forward operating bases after successfully fielding the larger Persistent Threat Detection System (PTDS ) (see separate record). It provides counter-improvised explosive devices (IED) and surveillance support for forward operating bases. Several have also been supplied to British forces in the region.
