Indo-Pacific Competition Goes Underwater

In 2021, Australia decided to end plans to buy conventional submarines
from France and instead buy nuclear-powered boats in cooperation with
the U.K. and U.S. Under the AUKUS framework, the U.S. will deliver
at least three Virginia-class submarines in the 2030s, with a new design
submarine to be developed with the U.K. for service entry in the 2050s.
