Chinese military engineers with the U.N. mission in the Democratic Republic
of the Congo march to a road project in April 2008. The project aims at improving
access to a power plant that is the only source of electricity for the eastern DRC.
China is becoming a force to reckon with in Africa, exchanging its investments,
military assistance and peacekeeping efforts for African oil and mineral wealth.
