The BRN nationalist/separatist group operates in the southern Muslim-dominated provinces of Thailand -- particularly Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat. BRN also stages operations from northern Malaysia. BRN’s most active wing, BRN-Coordinate (BRN-C), has members spread throughout southern villages, organized into cells. Its leaders are mainly ustadz, religious teachers, and schoolteachers.
