Western Burma, particularly in the Buthidaung, Kyauktaw, Maungdaw, Minbya, Mrauk U and Rathedaung townships of Rakhine state and the Paletwa township of Chin state.
The AA has also launched attacks into border areas of neighboring Bangladesh and India.
Its headquarters is located in the mountainous Laiza township in the northern Kachin state.
