OVERVIEW
The Romanian air force (Fortele Aeriene Romane, FAR) was rebuilt along Western lines after the communists and former communists were ousted from power in 1996. The air force was given high priority, which led to an improvement in the level of equipment serviceability. Integration with NATO forces is a focus of air force policy.
