Combat Aircraft

The German Air Force has two types of combat aircraft in its fleet of fighter/bombers: the Eurofighter Typhoon and the Panavia Tornado (IDS). The service's former legacy fleet of aging McDonnell Douglas F-4s was fully retired by the end of June 2013. These aircraft had begun their service with the Air Force in 1973, and their retirement was made possible by the continued introduction of Typhoons.
