OVERVIEW

The Danish army is transforming itself from a territorial defense force to a smaller force that can quickly project power outside its borders. Those changes are embodied in the creation of a rapid-reaction brigade, which can be used for local defense or internationally as part of U.N. or NATO missions. A second brigade can be used for the same purposes, but relies on low-readiness "response forces," which must be called up.
