OVERVIEW
The Trucial Oman Scouts, which were commanded by British officers, were handed over to the United Arab Emirates defense forces in 1971. They became the foundation for the Emirati army, which was created in 1976 with the merger of the armed forces of the various emirates. The modern Land Forces Command was established in 1989 and is headquartered in the Zayed Military City in Abu Dhabi.
