The Mongolian army is organized along the lines of the former Soviet army. Nearly all its equipment is of Soviet or Russian manufacture.
The army is organized as follows:
1 motorized rifle brigade
1 artillery regiment
1 airborne battalion
1 light infantry battalion (a second battalion is to be established)
PERSONNEL STRENGTH
The army has about 8,900 personnel, including 3,300 conscripts and a 300-member construction brigade. Army reserve forces number 137,000.
Mongolia has no indigenous arms industry and imports all its equipment, which is of Russian design and manufacture. (For additional information on the equipment listed below, search our Weapons Database. Equipment listed is of Russian origin.)
